'Picture Rachmaninoff' presented by Oracle Piano Society and Friends of Tempe Center for the Arts. Written by Radio Hall of Famer Paul Harvey Jr., 'Picture Rachmaninoff' is a one man celebration of music, poetry and art in a multi media presentation performed by pianist Stephen Cook. Rachmaninoff’s 9 Etudes-Tableaux, Op. 39 is the centerpiece for the concert. This hybrid piano concert fuses elements of a painting exhibition, a poetry recitation and a piano recital, to create a new genre of theater production. The concert will include a meet and greet reception in the TCA lounge with Stephen Cook, Oracle Piano Society Board of Directors, and members of the Artist Advisory Committee including Robert Hamilton, and Paul Harvey Jr. Adult tickets will include one complimentary beverage. Picture Rachmaninoff: Monday, September 19, 2011, 7:30 p.m. Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Virginia G. Piper Theater Tickets: $10 (Free for students with valid I.D.) Based on a multi-media production by ASU pianist Stephen Cook, this world premiere of Paul Harvey Jr.’s new play combines the thrilling piano music of Sergei Rachmaninoff with beautiful paintings and evocative poetry. Cook performs Rachmaninoff’s complete Etudes-Tableaux, Op. 39, accompanied by dramatic visual projections and poetry readings, including masterworks by Kandinsky, Pushkin, Vrubel, Lermontov and others. A Q&A will follow the performance.

Stephen Cook performs in a fundraiser for the people of Japan on May 7 at 7pm at the Virginia G. Piper Performing Arts Center, Phoenix, AZ. $15 minimum donation for adults and $8 minimum for 18 and under.
